Sourcing the parts

Case and movement are sourced and paired long before a dial is chosen. Cases are cast in the karat and tone you choose, and any stones are graded and matched end to end.

  1. Loose diamonds sorted by size on olive velvet beside a pencil drawing of a gem-set gold watch case.
SelectionStones for the case are chosen and laid out beside the drawing.
  2. Tweezers holding a diamond above the empty stone seats of a polished gold watch bezel.
PreparationEach stone is prepared for its seat before any gold is cut.

Design and model

The case is proportioned on the wrist first. The movement is fitted and re-fitted until the crown and clasp sit where the hand expects them, and nothing goes to gold before the model is approved.

  1. Gold watch case blank laid on its actual-size drawing and measured with a steel caliper.
ProportionThe piece is checked against the drawing at actual size.
  2. Watchmaker's hands filing the lugs of a gold watch case against a wooden bench pin.
ShapingCase parts are filed and fitted by hand.

Craftsmanship

Each case is brushed, polished and set in sequence, and the movement is regulated over days before it is cased. The goldsmith who assembles the watch is the one who signs it off.

  1. Setter pressing diamonds one by one into the bezel of a gold watch case held in a clamp.
SettingStones are set in sequence, so no facet dulls the one beside it.
  2. Watchmaker fitting a gold link bracelet to a diamond-set gold watch with a spring-bar tool.
AssemblyCase and bracelet are brought together on one bench.
  3. Finished gold watch with a diamond bezel held under the bench lamp beside a jeweller's loupe.
Final checkThe goldsmith who assembles the piece is the one who signs it off.
